Revamping the Highline in Chelsea has been on the New York development schedule for a number of years. I thought the sprawling illustrations of an amazing boardwalk running above chelsea were just a figment of the artists imagination, and that all of the supposed hotels that would open in the area were just simple promotion. The Highline, however, is beginning to show some serious signs of life. Being the location of Calvin Klein’s 40th anniversary party is certainly a step in the right direction. The company hired John Pawson to build a one of a kind structure over the Highline that would be solely used for this event. NYtimes reports that this, combined with a light sculpture from James Turrell, cost the company $3 million. The party was amazing, everyone attended, except Calvin Klein, good times had by all.
